Many air purifiers use a washable prefilter wrap or mesh. Cleaning it improves airflow and extends main filter life — but drying is the key.

Safe cleaning steps

  1. Remove the prefilter wrap/mesh
  2. Shake out dust outdoors
  3. Wash with mild soap (if allowed)
  4. Rinse thoroughly
  5. Air dry fully (ideally overnight)

Don’t reinstall damp

A slightly damp prefilter can cause musty odor and can transfer moisture into the purifier.

How often to clean

  • Pets / heavy dust: every 1–2 weeks
  • Typical homes: every 2–4 weeks

When to replace the wrap

Replace if:

  • fabric is stretched and loose
  • it no longer fits evenly
  • it smells even after full drying
