Many air purifiers use a washable prefilter wrap or mesh. Cleaning it improves airflow and extends main filter life — but drying is the key.
Safe cleaning steps
- Remove the prefilter wrap/mesh
- Shake out dust outdoors
- Wash with mild soap (if allowed)
- Rinse thoroughly
- Air dry fully (ideally overnight)
Don’t reinstall damp
A slightly damp prefilter can cause musty odor and can transfer moisture into the purifier.
How often to clean
- Pets / heavy dust: every 1–2 weeks
- Typical homes: every 2–4 weeks
When to replace the wrap
Replace if:
- fabric is stretched and loose
- it no longer fits evenly
- it smells even after full drying
